The Metropolises

Bucharest: The City, Tracked

Little Paris in Schengen year: the capital's airports closed 2025 at a record 17.7 million passengers, Corinthia reopened the 1867 Grand Hotel du Boulevard, metro line M6 is tunnelling toward the airport — and the coach network sprawls from Filaret to Militari. Seven studies, one hub.

The hotel landscape

Bucharest enters the TIO metropolis series in its Schengen era: the capital's two airports closed 2025 at a record 17.7 million passengers (+10.3%), Henri Coandă alone crossing 17 million for the first time, with a 176,000 m², 30-million-passenger terminal in design.

Romania's tourism economy is a domestic story with a growing foreign layer: 14+ million arrivals and 30+ million nights in 2024, foreign arrivals +5.5% in H1 2025 with Germany, Italy and the UK leading — and Bucharest the country's top destination by far.

The build pipeline is tangible: Corinthia resurrected the 1867 Grand Hotel du Boulevard (March 2025), Romania's first Mondrian arrives in 2026, metro M6 is tunnelling to the airport (2028–29), and a new southern extension broke ground in February 2026 — while coaches anchor at Filaret and Militari.
