Methodology

How Travel Intelligence Office works

Where our data comes from, how estimates are made, and why we separate the two.

Sources

Primary and trade

Official statistics

Ministry of Tourism and MMPRC / Visit Maldives arrival data; Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) movements; Ministry of Finance and Maldives Monetary Authority fiscal series.

Industry data

STR/CoStar occupancy and ADR benchmarks; OAG and Cirium capacity and schedule data; company disclosures (Accor, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Ennismore).

Trade verification

Opening dates, brand signings and rate positioning verified against Forbes, Hotelier Maldives, TTG, Skift and Business of Travel — never from press releases alone.

Field channels

Luxury consortia advisors (Virtuoso, Traveller Made), leading tour operators and DMCs for realised rates, transfer costs and booking-window behaviour.

Principles

How we publish

Confirmed vs estimated

Every figure is either confirmed (cited to a source) or an estimate (labelled as such, with the reasoning shown). We never blend the two silently.

True Stay Cost

Our house metric: published villa rate plus T-GST, service charge, green tax, transfers, fees and mandatory dining — the number a guest actually pays per night.

No inventory to sell

We do not sell rooms, take commissions or rank by partnership. A resort's position in our tables reflects our analysis, not a commercial relationship.

Dated intelligence

Every issue states its data cut-off. Markets move; we update destination pages when the underlying facts change, not on a publishing calendar.

We don't sell reports.
We sell knowledge of the destination.
