Fifty years after the renaming, Saigon is Vietnam’s economic engine — and in eighteen months it gained a metro line, a 20-million-passenger terminal and a second airport’s first flights, while tourism revenue grew 46%.
The city’s 2025 ledger is the case: 8.6 million international arrivals (+43%), 46 million domestic tourists, VND 278.6 trillion in tourism revenue (+46%) — the largest slice of Vietnam’s record 21.2-million-visitor year. In early 2026 it accelerated again: 6.4 million foreign guests in six months, up nearly 50%.
The transport stack is transforming in real time: Metro Line 1 (the nation’s first underground) hit 10 million riders in six months, Terminal 3 lifted Tan Son Nhat to ~50 million capacity, Long Thanh — set to be Southeast Asia’s largest airport — held its technical opening in December 2025, and the $67 billion North–South high-speed railway targets a December 2027 groundbreaking with its terminus across the river in Thu Thiem.
The studies below track each layer — what opened, who arrives, what they spend, and how the airport, rail, river ports and coach terminals actually behave. Use the menu to move between the seven studies.
