Germany's quality hub at record pace: 43.4 million passengers with the biggest absolute growth in the German-speaking world, a €665-million new pier opened in July 2026 — and a €3.85-billion second S-Bahn tunnel boring beneath the city.
Munich Airport closed 2025 at 43.4 million passengers (+4.4%) — the largest absolute growth of any airport in Germany, Austria or Switzerland — with long-haul up 8.5% and revenue at a record ~€1.8 billion. In July 2026 the new Terminal 1 pier opened: 95,000 m², six more million passengers of capacity, and the airport welcomed its one-billionth passenger in May.
The hotel slate is dense and central: the Koenigshof (Luxury Collection's German debut, by Nieto Sobejano at Stachus) anchors the top, while 2026 alone brings Bob W (119), The Dean (281), Element Unterföhring (561) and Amano Stachus (277) — plus an ibis Styles at the airport with 358 rooms.
Beneath it all, the €3.85-billion second S-Bahn trunk line is boring 40 meters down toward a three-station express tunnel — and the U9 metro bypass (€3.5 billion) is in design. The Munich dossier is complete — a tracker plus four urban readings: the air hub, the rail hub, the arrivals table and the money flow.
