Bus stations
Kempegowda Bus Station at Majestic is one of the largest bus terminals in South India: 1,732 scheduled KSRTC departures a day, 24/7, opposite the city railway station.
Officially Kempegowda Bus Station, universally Majestic: platforms split by state and class, with Karnataka’s KSRTC running the core network — Mysuru every 15 minutes, Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Hubballi and the coast — while Kerala KSRTC Swift covers Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram, and interstate buses reach Chennai (5 hours), Hyderabad and Tirupati. The service ladder climbs from Ordinary through Karnataka Vaibhav to the Airavat Club Class Volvos.
The terminal sits opposite KSR Bengaluru City railway station, with the Majestic metro interchange (Purple/Green lines) inside the complex — the one place in the city where every mode touches. Satellite terminals take the overflow: Mysore Road for Coorg and the south, Shanti Nagar and Kalasipalya for private operators, Baiyappanahalli for the Chennai corridor.
Bengaluru is India’s sleeper-bus capital: the IT workforce fills thousands of overnight berths every weekend — Kochi in 9–10 hours, Goa in 12, Mangaluru in 7–8, plus the private-operator AxB (anywhere-to-Bengaluru) network on redBus. Booking is digital-first; walk-ups work off-peak, but Friday nights and festival weeks sell the fleet out. The honest advice: book the AC sleeper, lower berth, and treat the bus as your hotel night.
THE TIO READ
For Mysuru, just show up at Majestic — every 15 minutes, no booking needed. For Kerala and Goa, book the Airavat or a private AC sleeper on redBus three to four days ahead; weekend berths vanish by Wednesday. Arrive 30 minutes early — Majestic’s platform numbering is logical but the crowd is not — and keep the metro in reserve: it is the only guaranteed way out of the Majestic rush.
