BERLIN AIRPORT HUB

Berlin Airport Hub — BER steadies at 26 million and banks on the Gulf

Berlin Brandenburg closed 2025 with 26.05 million passengers (+2.3%), passed its 100-millionth traveller since opening, and found its growth engine in the Gulf — Doha traffic up 44% in a year.

The traffic picture

BER remains Germany’s third-busiest airport, still a quarter below the 35.6 million the old Tegel–Schönefeld pair carried in 2019. The 2025 board: Frankfurt leads domestic (1.3 million), Munich second (960,000), Palma de Mallorca top leisure at over 906,000, then Zurich and Antalya. Ryanair stays the largest single airline at 4.7 million despite a 10% cut on location costs; easyJet carried 4.2 million; the Lufthansa Group leads with 5.9 million. Condor was the year’s growth story, more than doubling its presence, and Eurowings added 9.3%. The long-haul bright spot is the Gulf: Qatar Airways, Eurowings, Condor and Flynas carried 726,300 passengers to Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Jeddah — up 44%.

Terminals and access

Flights concentrate in Terminal 1 (28-million capacity) and Terminal 2 (6 million); the former Schönefeld buildings serve as Terminal 5. The airport’s own station sits under T1: the Airport Express FEX reaches Hauptbahnhof in about 30 minutes, the RE8/RB23 regional trains and S-Bahn S9/S45 fill the gaps, and buses cover the night. A taxi to the centre runs 40–50 minutes and roughly €60–80. The October 2025 autumn-holiday Friday set the airport’s all-time record — 102,059 passengers in a day — proof the facility works when Germany actually travels.

THE TIO READ

Take the FEX, always: 30 minutes to Hauptbahnhof on a city ticket beats an €80 taxi by every measure except luggage. And for long-haul, price the Gulf carriers before Lufthansa via Frankfurt — BER’s Doha growth is turning Berlin into a one-stop world city.
