Bus stations
Shenzhen’s bus story is a border story: cross-boundary coaches from Hong Kong clear customs in the aisle, drive to the checkpoint, and wait while you walk through — then finish the ride.
Pick your checkpoint by district: Luohu (metro line 1) for the classic, busiest crossing with direct MTR East Rail access; Futian (lines 4/10) for the CBD; Huanggang for late nights — the only 24-hour option; Shenzhen Bay for Shekou, Nanshan and Bao’an airport, where both immigrations sit in one building; Liantang for the east. The metro crosses at Luohu and Futian/Lok Ma Chau; coaches use Huanggang and Shenzhen Bay.
From Hong Kong Airport, the cross-boundary coach is the default winner: CTS Express every 15–60 minutes (HK$150–250, 60–110 minutes) to Futian, Luohu, Shekou and Shenzhen Airport. You clear Hong Kong in the bus aisle, walk the mainland hall with your bags, and re-board the same coach — the driver waits. Book on Klook for 5–10% off.
Once across, Shenzhen’s own coach stations take over: Luohu and Futian stations for Guangdong intercity runs, Yinhu and Bao’an for the province’s north, and the Shenzhen Bay coach bays for the direct Guangzhou corridor. The East Rail walk from Lok Ma Chau into Futian is the budget move for light bags — but punishing with a 25 kg suitcase and three transfers. After 22:30, Huanggang coaches are the only wheels rolling; after midnight, only pre-booked private cars.
THE TIO READ
Memorise one sentence: coach by day, Huanggang by night. From HKIA, take the CTS coach and let the aisle-immigration do its magic; from central Hong Kong, the East Rail walk into Luohu beats the coach only if you are bag-free. Keep your passport and your arrival card in the same pocket — you will show them twice in ten minutes — and never plan a 22:00 flight landing with a same-night Shenzhen hotel unless Huanggang is in the plan.
