Shenzhen Port Hub — Shekou, the homeport that docks the world’s biggest ships

Shenzhen’s Shekou Cruise Homeport is the only terminal in China that can berth Oasis-class giants — and this summer it became the first homeport of Adora Magic City’s international season.

Prince Bay: the flagship

The Shekou Prince Bay Cruise Homeport in Nanshan opened on 13 November 2016 as China’s first dedicated cruise terminal — a Denis Laming-designed triangular building with two cruise berths rated for the world’s largest ships (362-metre, 228,000-ton Oasis class) and twelve ferry berths. SuperStar Virgo inaugurated the homeporting era; MSC Bellissima, the Adora ships and Spectrum-class visitors followed. In August 2026 Adora Magic City — China’s first domestically built large cruise ship — ran her first international season from Shenzhen, the homeport’s biggest booking yet.

Border tech matches the hardware: seven-minute automated clearance for Hong Kong and Macau residents via boarding-pass machines, and a free shuttle to Shekou Port metro station (Line 2/12).

The ferry web

Shekou’s daily business is the delta crossing: 146-plus sailings a day on six routes — Hong Kong Central in 50 minutes, Hong Kong Airport’s Skypier in 30 (with upstream check-in and bag drop for participating airlines), Macau Outer Harbour and Taipa in an hour, Zhuhai in an hour, and island charters. Tickets from HK$320 economy to HKIA, HK$420 first class. The ferry web is why Shekou calls itself Shenzhen’s sea gateway — and why the city’s western districts often “fly” via Hong Kong.

THE TIO READ

Flying out of Hong Kong from Shenzhen? The Skypier ferry is the move: check your bags at Shekou, sail 30 minutes straight into HKIA’s transit zone, and collect up to HK$200 departure-tax refund on arrival. Book the 40-minute buffer beyond the airline minimum. And if you are cruising on Magic City, arrive by metro Line 12 — the terminal shuttle beats the taxi queue at embarkation peak.
