Singapore Bus Hub — the terminal that moved into a mall

Singapore’s coach scene is famously dispersed: when Golden Mile Complex closed for redevelopment in 2023, four decades of Malaysia-bound buses scattered across the island.

After Golden Mile

For four decades Golden Mile Complex was Singapore’s unofficial bus terminal — Thai food downstairs, Malaysia coaches at the kerb. When the building was sold and vacated in May 2023, the operators moved: Transtar and three others relocated to Grantral Mall@MacPherson from 1 April 2023, while other lines scatter across Golden Mile Tower, Boon Lay, Queen Street and Tampines.

The model stays distributed: there is no central terminal, so you board where your operator parks — always confirm the exact pickup point on your ticket. Typical routes: Kuala Lumpur in about five hours (from SGD 30–40), Malacca around three to four hours, Penang and Ipoh overnight.

The Causeway commute

The world’s busiest bus crossing is Singapore’s backyard: Causeway Link and SBS Transit services shuttle the Woodlands checkpoint to Johor Bahru around the clock, and direct “CW” coaches skip the local stops. For travellers it is the cheapest Malaysia entry imaginable — a few dollars and a passport queue, with JB’s food scene on the far side.

The TIO Read

Book Malaysia coaches on redBus or Easybook and screenshot the pickup map — “Grantral Mall” means the MacPherson one, not Clementi, and drivers do not wait. For KL, the five-hour coach beats flying door-to-door on price and often on time. And for a spontaneous Saturday, just walk onto a Causeway Link bus: JB’s night markets start where the checkpoint ends.
