01 — Two worlds, one archipelago
The 2025 scoreboard: ~11M total visitors (record, cruise-led), ~1.7M air stopovers, and a luxury tier running $800–2,500/night with the Out Island boutique shelf at the top. The structure: Nassau/Paradise Island holds the volume (Atlantis’s marine-park colossus, Baha Mar’s $4B three-brand complex, the renovated colonial core), while 700 islands and 2,400 cays scatter the boutique product across the clearest water in the Atlantic. The 2025 momentum: the US market at full strength, the boating scene booming, and the Out Islands adding ultra-luxury villa-estate product (the new Four Seasons Residences at Emerald Bay among them).
02 — The archipelago, decoded
New Providence & Paradise Island are the volume: Atlantis’s waterscape colossus, Baha Mar’s Grand Hyatt/Rosewood/SLS trio, and Nassau’s colonial core — the full-service family and casino market. The Exumas are the water wonderland: 365 cays of sandbars and swimming pigs, with Grand Isle and the villa-estate scene at Emerald Bay. Harbour Island is the chic outpost: pink sand, golf carts, and the Briland scene that draws the fashion crowd — Dunmore-class boutique at the summit. Eleuthera is the long thin escape: 100 miles of split Atlantic/Caribbean coastline with the Cove and French Leave-class product. Andros and the far islands hold the bonefishing lodges and the wild frontier.
03 — The calendar
November–May is the season: 24–28°C, dry, with the water clearing to its famous visibility — and December’s festive fortnight the Americas’ classic island peak. February–April is peak perfection (book the Out Islands far ahead; their boutique stock is tiny). May is the shoulder sweet spot. June–October brings heat, humidity and the hurricane window — September–October carrying the real risk (Dorian’s 2019 lesson on the Abacos and Grand Bahama remains the reference). Summer rates drop 30–40% for the flexible and insured.
04 — What it costs, honestly
The Out Island luxury shelf runs $1,000–2,500 (Harbour Island’s boutiques, Emerald Bay estates); Nassau’s mega-resorts $400–900 with the casino comps logic; strong boutique product $500–800. The honest additions: Bahamian prices carry an import premium on everything (VAT plus duties make dining notably expensive), Out Island logistics add charter flights or ferry time, and resort fees are standard. The value play: Nassau’s shoulder season, or Eleuthera’s space at Harbour Island’s discount.
05 — The honest frictions
Hurricane exposure: the June–November window is real — Dorian (2019) remains the archipelago’s reference trauma; insurance and flexibility are essential in season’s tail. The Nassau reality: outside the resorts, the capital’s edges are rough — the product is the enclave, honestly. Out Island logistics: the boutique dream requires small planes, boats and patience — that’s the price of the empty sandbar. And the price level: between import duties and island economics, the Bahamas runs expensive across every line item — budget generously.
06 — Final outlook
The Bahamas’ advantage is un-replicable: the Atlantic’s clearest water an hour from America’s largest luxury market. Book November or May for the shoulder value; choose Nassau for the full-service resort week, the Exumas for the boating water, Harbour Island for the scene; and respect the storm window — the shoulder seasons, insured, are the smart money’s Bahamas.
