Rosewood made its Qatar debut in July 2025 with twin coral-inspired towers on Lusail Marina — 155 rooms, eight restaurants and the Asaya wellness club — while the airport grew two concourses, the cruise season booked a record 72 calls, and Doha was crowned the GCC's Tourism Capital for 2026.
Rosewood Doha opened July 1, 2025 as the centerpiece of Lusail's Marina District — two sculpted towers of 37 and 40 floors designed by Qatar's leading architect Ibrahim Jaidah, their facades a modern mashrabiya inspired by the coral reefs and pearl-diving heritage of the Gulf. Inside: 155 rooms and suites, 162 serviced apartments, 276 private residences, more than 4,000 square meters of event space and the Asaya Social Wellness Club with padel courts.
The dining architecture is a statement of intent — eight destinations including Koo Madame's Shanghai-style room and the Asaya Kitchen — aimed as much at Doha's resident gourmands as at guests. Rosewood's arrival completes a luxury geography that already spans the Raffles and Fairmont in Katara Towers' crescent over the water and the Mondrian, St. Regis and Waldorf Astoria along West Bay and the Pearl: Doha now holds one of the densest five-star inventories in the Gulf.
The year's other debuts are infrastructural. At Hamad International, Concourses D and E opened in March 2025 — 17 new contact gates, an extra 110,000 square meters of terminal — lifting capacity past 65 million passengers just as traffic hit a record 54.3 million. August 2025 became the busiest month in the airport's history with more than 5 million passengers, and for the first time point-to-point travel to Doha itself is growing faster than transfers.
On the water, the 2025/26 cruise season at Old Doha Port's Grand Cruise Terminal is the busiest yet: 72 calls between November and May, including 15 full turnarounds and the maiden visit of Saudi line AROYA. And the title that ties it together: Doha was officially designated the GCC Tourism Capital 2026 — recognition of a calendar that runs 600-plus events a year, from the Arab Cup to the Doha Forum.
Our read: book the Rosewood if Lusail is your business — its inaugural-year rates are the softest they will ever be — but stay in Msheireb or West Bay if your days are about the souq and the museums: Lusail is a destination of its own, 20 minutes from the old city. The real 2026 play is the events calendar: Arab Cup alumni know the drill — match weeks fill the metro and the five-stars alike, so book around the Qatar Calendar, not just the weather. And take the stopover seriously: Discover Qatar packages still bundle four-star nights for the price of an airport lounge pass.
