TASHKENT ARRIVALS
Uzbekistan recorded 11,679.6 thousand inbound tourist trips in 2025 — up 46.8 percent — and Tashkent, holding 64 percent of national air traffic, is the default gateway. Two-thirds of arrivals are family visits; the leisure segment is small, but growing fastest.
The sources of the flow are regional: Kyrgyzstan sent 3,315.1 thousand trips, Tajikistan 2,695.7 thousand, Kazakhstan 2,667.4 thousand, Russia 984.4 thousand, Afghanistan 476.7 thousand and Turkmenistan 370.0 thousand. Among distant markets, China leads with 278.9 thousand, ahead of Türkiye (174.9k), India (80.9k) and South Korea (46.3k). UN Tourism ranked Uzbekistan among the world’s seven fastest-growing destinations in 2025, with arrivals 73 percent above 2019; the Tourism Committee reports average stays lengthening from 4–5 to 7–9 nights. Visa-free entry now covers citizens of nearly 100 countries, and the Uzbekistan–2030 strategy targets 15 million foreign tourists — a mark the current trajectory reaches early.
City-level statistics lag the national count, but the structure is visible. Tashkent’s 844 registered accommodation facilities hosted 1.27 million guests in 2024 — the formal tip of a much larger informal iceberg of family stays and unregistered rentals. The purpose split explains the pattern: 7.86 million of the national trips (67.3%) were family visits, 1.92 million recreation, 1.32 million business. For Tashkent the business slice matters most — the capital concentrates the ministries, the banks and the trade fairs — while leisure travellers typically treat it as the entry and exit gate for the Samarkand–Bukhara–Khiva circuit. Methodological note: national figures count trips, not unique persons; repeat crossers are counted each time.
THE TIO READ
The honest reading of Uzbekistan’s boom: it is a VFR-and-trade phenomenon converting, slowly, into a leisure one. Tashkent monetizes the conversion — airport, hotels, restaurants — better than it monetizes the base. The 46.8 percent headline growth rate cannot persist mathematically, but the China and Gulf corridors are only now opening. The city’s task is to turn the gateway night into a third night.
