TEL AVIV PORT HUB

Tel Aviv Port Hub — the Namal is a promenade, and the cruise ships dock in Haifa

Tel Aviv has no working commercial port: the Namal is a leisure district and Jaffa keeps its fishing boats — cruise passengers for Tel Aviv dock in Haifa, 90 km north, where a purpose-built terminal opened in May 2026, or in Ashdod, 40 km south.

The Namal and Jaffa — ports as scenery

Tel Aviv’s old port, the Namal, shut its cargo berths when Ashdod opened in 1965 and has been rebuilt as the city’s weekend waterfront: restaurants, shops, a farmers’ market and the boardwalk. Jaffa’s harbour — one of the oldest working ports in the world — keeps a small fishing fleet and yachts under the old city walls. There are no ferries, no cruise calls and no cargo anywhere on the Tel Aviv seafront; the marina at Herzliya handles the leisure boats.

Haifa and Ashdod — the city’s real sea gates

Cruise passengers for Tel Aviv dock 90 km north in Haifa, Israel’s only homeport (Adani–Gadot concession since July 2023), where a purpose-built two-berth terminal — 19,000 m², 6,500 passengers per direction — was inaugurated on May 14, 2026, with full completion due in 2027 and an interim 5,500 m² hall in use until then. The Haifa train station is a five-minute walk from the terminal, putting Tel Aviv 40–60 minutes away; Mano Cruises homeports the Golden Iris there March–November, about 50,000 passengers a year. The peak year was 2012 (118 calls, ~170,000 passengers) and cruise traffic contracted sharply after October 2023 — Royal Caribbean’s Haifa departures remain suspended. Ashdod, 40 km south of Tel Aviv, serves mainly as the Jerusalem gateway.

THE TIO READ

If a hotel listing promises a “port view” in Tel Aviv, it is a marina view. Cruisers should pick a Haifa call with a late departure — the train puts you on the Tel Aviv promenade inside the hour, and the 2026 terminal finally matches the product ashore.
