The imperial capital on its next lap: a record 20.07 million overnight stays, a Mandarin Oriental born in a 1908 courthouse, and an aviation-tax experiment watched by all of Europe. Eight studies, one hub.
Vienna enters the series at its halfway mark: 20.065 million overnight stays in 2025 (+6%) on 8.6 million arrivals, 83% of them international — with Germany, the USA and Italy leading a market table no European capital spreads wider.
The infrastructure keeps pace with the demand: Vienna Airport closed 2025 at a record 32.56 million passengers (+2.6%) yet plans a deliberate ~30 million for 2026 as the national aviation tax shifts low-cost capacity to Bratislava; Hauptbahnhof Railjets reach Budapest in 2:40 and Prague in four hours; and Handelskai’s twelve berths switch to shore power in spring 2026.
The hotel market completes its luxury crown: the 138-key Mandarin Oriental opened on 1 December 2025 in Alfred Keller’s 1908–12 courthouse — the brand’s first address in Austria — while the Anantara Palais Hansen refreshes, the Palais Chotek is announced, and the Rosewood Vienna anchors the Ring. Citywide: 450 hotels, 84,600 beds, 26 luxury flags.
