01 — The outbound ledger
Egypt publishes no unified resident-departure ledger. The only verified pulse is private — card spending by premium Visa cardholders, a narrow perimeter, labelled:
| Measure | Value | Scope · source |
|---|---|---|
| Official series | none | No unified resident-departure count is published |
| Private pulse | outbound card spend +28% (summer 2025) | Visa Retail Spend Monitor — premium cardholders only; top destinations UAE, France, Spain, USA, Italy |
02 — The inbound mirror
The Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities announced the record in January 2026; WTTC’s economic-impact research carries the wider money perimeter — both labelled:
| Measure | Value | Scope · source |
|---|---|---|
| Tourists | ≈19M +21% | Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities, 2025 — all-time record; 2026 target: 20M |
| Charter arrivals | +32% | Ministry, 2025 |
| New Alamein (North Coast) | +450% | Ministry, 2025 — the season’s outlier |
| Cultural sites | 18.6M visitors +33.5% | Ministry, 2025 |
| International visitor spending | EGP 726.9bn (2024) → EGP 768.2bn proj. (2025) | WTTC / Oxford Economics — wider T&T perimeter, labelled; 2024 = +36.1% vs 2019 |
| Sector weight | EGP 1.4tn · 8.5% of GDP · 2.7M jobs | WTTC EIR, 2024 — a wider perimeter than the ministry’s tourist count |
03 — Gateways and ports
Three gateways split the flow: the capital, and the two Red Sea funnels.
Cairo (CAI), Hurghada (HRG) and Sharm El Sheikh (SSH) carry the country’s international traffic. We have not yet verified FY2025 operator totals — the line stays empty rather than borrowed.
