43.2 million: the record year with the red roof

Boston Logan closed 2025 with 43.2 million passengers — a new record — and its first-ever ten-million international year, all of it flowing through a Terminal E crowned by the prismatic 'Boston Red' roof that changed the airport's face in 2023.

The international decade

Logan's growth story is now written in foreign languages: international passengers hit 10.03 million in 2025 — up 3.8% and the most ever — across 59 overseas destinations on four continents. London-Heathrow is the flagship at 1.08 million passengers a year on five airlines; Paris, Dublin, Amsterdam and Lisbon complete a top five that reads like a European grand tour. New flags keep arriving: Abu Dhabi on Etihad, Vienna on Austrian, Porto and Funchal on TAP, with Aeromexico and Hainan restoring Mexico City and Beijing.

The hardware arrived first: Terminal E's $680 million redevelopment opened in August 2023 — 320,000 new square feet, four gates, a Federal Inspection Station processing 2,000 passengers an hour, and that color-shifting red roof, the first prismatic paint ever used on an airport façade. Terminals B and C remain the domestic workhorses at 13.6 million passengers; JetBlue and Delta split the airport's loyalties.

Getting out of Logan

Logan sits three miles from downtown across the harbor — close enough that the transfer menu is the city's quiet luxury. The Silver Line SL1 bus picks up at every terminal curb and runs free to South Station in 20–35 minutes, with a free transfer onto the Red Line for Cambridge. The Blue Line's Airport station, reached by free Massport shuttles, serves the North End and Government Center. And the Back Bay Logan Express coach is free from the airport to the Prudential Center.

The Logan Express suburban network — Braintree, Framingham, Danvers, Woburn, Back Bay — carried a record 2.5 million riders in 2025, doubling in a decade and expanding garages to match. Ferries run from the airport dock to Long Wharf, Hingham and Hull. The honest guidance: the SL1 for South Station and the Seaport, the Blue Line for the North End, Logan Express for Back Bay, and a water taxi if you want the best arrival photograph in America.

THE TIO READ
The reviewer’s call

Our read: Logan in 2026 is the rare American airport where the free option is also the best one — take the SL1 from the terminal curb and be at South Station inside half an hour without touching a wallet. Terminal E has made international arrivals genuinely pleasant; immigration at 2,000 passengers an hour means the red-roofed building now processes you faster than most European hubs. For a dawn departure, the airport-edge Hyatt Place and the Seaport hotels across the harbor beat any airport hotel in the city proper.
