A record year

Vienna registered 20,065,000 overnight stays in 2025 (+6%), on 8.6M arrivals (+5%). 83% of guests are international — one of the highest shares among Europe’s major capitals.

The market table

Germany leads with 3.543M arrivals, followed by domestic Austria at 3.381M, the USA at 1.259M, Italy at 1.077M, the United Kingdom at ~800k, Spain at 660k, France at 539k and Poland at 512k.

The American market is the yield engine: the USA is No. 1 in five-star hotel revenue despite ranking third in volume.

Long-haul recovery and congress

China sent 365k arrivals (+22%, around 70% of pre-crisis levels) and Japan 202k (+24%, still −40% vs 2019). The congress sector hosted 7,196 events with 794,812 participants and 2,545,348 associated bednights (+27%).

THE TIO READ

Vienna’s mix is the healthiest in our 50-city series: no single market above 18%, Americas and Asia recovering on separate clocks, and a congress segment that fills midweek winter troughs. For operators the signal is clear — this is a city that can absorb more luxury supply, and the Mandarin Oriental’s December opening is well-timed rather than brave.
